Why we still need newspapers

Go to fullsize imageI am one of those lucky people who straddle both sides of a divide. I was a newspaper writer and editor for 15 years, working at four daily newspapers ranging from the terrible and obscure Fitchburg-Leominster Sentinel & Enterprise to the very fine Miami Herald. Can you say “old media?”

Now, after 15 years on the dark side of the force (i.e., PR), I’ve ventured headlong into “new media.”

Both are good … but only one is inevitable. That’s why I pray for the newspaper industry to survive. I read a syndicated column in the Daily Press the other day that makes salient points as to why we should care. Go here. – Mike F.
